Rudra Śiva
Invoked in the Rigveda and Yajurveda as Kapardin (wearing braided locks), Tryambaka (the Three-Eyed Lord), and Śiva ('The Auspicious One'), Rudra is the supreme divine physician who heals all suffering and liberates the soul from mortality.
In the Rigveda, Rudra is the fierce yet deeply compassionate father of the Maruts, praised as 'Bhiṣaktamaṁ Bhiṣajām'—the greatest of all physicians (RV 2.33.4)—whose cooling, healing remedies restore health and wash away every sin and ailment.
From the Rigvedic Rudra Sūktas (RV 1.114, RV 2.33, and the Mahāmṛtyuñjaya Mantra in RV 7.59.12) to the grand Śatarudrīya (Śrī Rudram) in Adhyāya 16 of the Yajurveda where the five-syllable mantra 'Namaḥ Śivāya' first shines forth, Rudra-Śiva stands at the heart of Vedic devotion.
