Soma Pavamāna
An entire book of the Rigveda—all 114 hymns of Mandala 9—is dedicated solely to Soma Pavamāna ('Self-Purifying Soma'), the celestial nectar of immortality (Amṛta), poetic inspiration, and spiritual bliss.
In the Vedic hymns, Soma is both the sacred plant pressed during the Yajña and the inner nectar of divine bliss (Ānanda) and lunar serenity that purifies the mind. As the golden drops pass through the woolen filter ('Pavamāna'), the Rishis see a mirror of the human soul being purified to attain immortality.
In Rigveda 9.113 (the famous Pavamāna hymn of Rishi Kaśyapa), the seeker prays to Soma: 'Yatra jyotir ajasraṁ yasmin loke svar hitam... tatra māṁ amṛtaṁ kṛdhi'—'Where eternal light shines, in that realm where heaven is placed, O Pavamāna, make me immortal!'
